Rambling with Maurice

Breaking up this week's show, I've added a guest co-host. Although this is his first podcast, Maurice grabs the [proverbial] bull by the horn for this show. Covering a variety of topics from sports to politics to human nature, today's Father/Son bantering is not your typical oneupmanship style of generational counterpoint. [If you like this 2-person format, contact us via email, episode comment, or visit Facebook (EncouragementGuy Radio)

2014 Flames of Passion

My theme for 2014 is flames of passion. I've come to realize that nothing (creative) happens without passion. Another metaphor for passion is fire. The flames of a candle cuts through the darkness...visible at night as far away as 50 miles. The fire in the belly is often described of persons running for public office. When we notice our flames flickering, this is our cue to fuel-up! That what today's show is all about...fueling up your candle to allow your flame to burn inwardly and outwardly.

Work for the Sake of Work

No other activity takes up more space and time as doing work, job, and career. Work is what gives us a sense of purpose...a sense of being. Go to a party; first question asked of you by a newcomer is: say...what do you do for a living? Let's face it, second only to our belief (or unbelief) in a god/spirit/higher-power, work is the single most important tenet of our waking hour(s) thought consciousness. Recorded on a Sunday morning, I reflect on my intimate thoughts about work while enjoying the sunrise on a mountain at the park.

Walking a Day in a Womans Moccassins

Describe your life if you were forced to spend a day in another's mind/body/spirit. Who knows...maybe that's why the Native Americans were infamous for the saying, walk a mile in another man's moccassins. Today, we explore the idea of spending a day in another's shoes (or skin). Looking beyond ourselves, we begin to look into, behind, and through our neighbor's lenses. Come with me as I walk a day in another wo-man's moccassins.

How to Control Your Life

The self-help movement teaches that we are the "Captains of our ship". Simply believe and [then] achieve! -- goes the mantra. After experiencing Earthly life for 1/2 century, my conclusion is that we don't control our lives. My viewpoint is that life is given and received. The amazing thing is that The Creator also gifted humans with the power of choice -- aka, Free Will -- to exercise autonomy of choice management of this gift of life. We are Life Managers; listen-in to learn more...

Ya Gotta Hold On

Lady hanging in a treeListening to one of my favorite music groups gave me inspiration for this week's radiocast.  Alabama Shakes features a powerful female vocalist that belts out the mantra that is the new national anthem for we students of personal success and development. Through it all -- through thick and thin -- we just gotta hold on! No special potions or spells..no magic pills..just a redundant emphasis upon the principle and perseverance to HOLD ON!

The Easy Way to set Goals

LeBron James Basketball GoalGoal-setting educational resources has become a cottage (lucrative) industry. Whether your issues/problem/desire or goal is to lose weight, improve your love life, advance in your career or get a new job, we've been taught to become goal oriented. Achieving our goals is supposed to makes us happier...Right?

Goals are a necessary part of everyday living and actualization. Yet we fail to realize is that getting to (goal) Yes! isn't the point. What is the point? The point is that there is no point. We must come to the place in life -- enunciated best by Shakespeare -- To Be or Not to be, That is the Question...

Conversations about Fathers Day

FeltonMilteer4by6.jpgCelebrating Father's Day conjures up thoughts...both good as well as not so good. Dads shape the well-being of their offspring. Memories of Dad floods our hearts with so much emotion. As we prepare for Sunday's 2013 Father's day event, I reflected back upon my own relationship with Daddy.

As you listen in, think back to your own Dad-relationship. Share if you like, or simply pick out the similarities between mine and yours. Happy Father's Day!

Ever wonder how you can stretch the 24 hours of a day into 28 hours?

Truth is, we can accomplish this herculean feat by following a really simple formula…

3 Life Lessons from Military Leadership

Be-Know-Do--LeadershiptheArmyWay.jpgI served 20 years of Active-Duty Military. After leaving the service, I attempted to reintegrate in the civilian corporate world.

Wearing corporate gray, out with the old and in with the new.

Trouble is, the leadership lessons learned in the Army are invaluable tools. As true as this is, I didn't recognize this fact until...[stick around for the rest of the story]
